Wearable Vital Signs Monitoring for Patients With Asthma: A Review

Worldwide, an estimated 461 000 people die from asthma attacks each year. While there remain treatments to alleviate symptoms and reduce deaths, patient deterioration needs be identified in sufficient time. To prevent deterioration, patients need aware of personal environmental triggers monitor their symptoms. The aim this article is provide a comprehensive review the current state-of-the-art wearable sensors devices that use vital signs for monitoring management. Among all signs, breathing rate airflow sound are key indicators asthmatic patients’ health can measured directly using continuous constant or indirectly by estimations based on proven algorithms electrocardiogram (ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG), chest movements. ECG PPG signals widely used smart watches bands, enabling easy integration more extensive body sensor framework exacerbation prediction. Other include blood oxygen saturation, temperature, pressure, verbal sound, pain responses. enabled broad range application scenarios
